| Description: | PLEASE NOTE DATE CHANGE!! Equine assisted therapies are experiential modalities that incorporate horses in the process of improving human health and enhancing emotional growth and learning. Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) focuses specifically on mental health problems while Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) is more generally applied to a wide range of life challenges such as dealing effectively with grief and loss. EAP/EAL are collaborative efforts involving a licensed therapist, a horse professional, and horses working with clients to address treatment and/or personal goals. Participants learn about themselves and others by engaging in activities with horses and processing thoughts, beliefs, and behavior patterns. The focus of EAP/EAL is on participants finding their own solutions to problems. These therapies are utilized for individuals, couples, families, and groups. EAP is an effective treatment for mental health problems including mood and anxiety disorders, eating disorders, substance abuse, conduct difficulties, posttraumatic stress disorder, and anger management problems. EAL can be an empowering process for people dealing with chronic medical illnesses, work or school stress, life transitions, grief and loss. This workshop provides opportunities for attendees to experience the power of working with horses while engaging in experiential learning activities. All activities are conducted on the ground. There is no riding involved in this workshop. No experience with horses is necessary and safety information is reviewed throughout the workshop. Didactic presentations, handouts, and group discussion are also included. | ||||||
