The Northwest AHEC Public Health Section addresses educational needs of healthcare professionals who work primarily in county public health departments. Most of these healthcare professionals are nurses, environmental health specialists, health educators, nutritionists, and social workers – all prioritizing health promotion and disease prevention. In addition, these AHEC educational activities also often appeal to those working in rural health, migrant health, and community health settings. Northwest AHEC strives to address these educational needs through partnerships within the nine AHECs, the state Public Health Department, and the School of Public Health at UNC-Chapel Hill.
